Shenandoah National Park in Autumn

I'm originally from California. I don't know how I've lived without a flamboyant Autumn for so long. It's my favorite season. Some family, friends and I took a drive up to the Shenandoah National Park this morning. The drive was beautiful and there were signs of the season EVERYWHERE! Leaves turning, piles o' pumpkins, hay rolls, field of dried corn stocks ... mmmm, I love it!

Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights

Okay, I’m not a fan of gore, but I am a fan of seeing my friends, guys included, scream like little girl sopranos. Seriously fun time! If you can handle crowds, don’t mind movie monsters and horror film characters jumping out at you every two minutes, and can breathe artificial fog, I highly recommend it. *grin*

Highlights of the evening included Tara getting double teamed by two gents from “The Strangers.” My phobic Angel standing in front of the “Do Not Enter If …” sign listing every one of her conditions. Trina texting on the Jurassic Park ride, while going down a waterfall, and being drenched from head to toe … I doubt I’ll ever see that again. Mikey finding that Duff beer really does exist in the fridge section of the real life Quick-E-Mart. Of course, the horror mazes and tram ride of terror were fun too.

Blood Moon 2008

It’s appropriate that at this time of the Blood Moon I’ll be flying home to check on the health of my mother. It’s also her 66th birthday, “Happy B-Day Mom!” For almost two years she’s been suffering from a debilitating nerve pain running down into her arm. It became so bad that she finally had a surgical procedure in September called Cervical Laminoplasty. Basically, they opened up the top of her spinal column like a hinged door and inserted some spacers to relieve pressure on nerve clusters. Ick, and ouch. Fortunately the procedure went smoothly and my mother is healing from the surgery quickly. Unfortunately it didn’t change her level of nerve pain. At her age, it’s really taking its toll.

My awareness of what happens to people when they enter their “golden years” has increased in the last year. I can’t say I’m cozy with what I’ve seen. At first I felt panic when I pondered what was to become of those I love and eventually to me. Everything is a process I guess, and I had to become aware of these things so I could grow and find peace in what is to be. So at this time of the Blood Moon I’m mulling over what it means to enter “the decline” and how, when it’s my turn, I can do so gracefully.

Twilight Trailer

I haven't read the series of books this movie is based on and hadn't heard of them until a few weeks ago. I know the release of Twilight was the reason for the next Harry Potter movie being knocked from it's November release back to the Summer of 2009. I'm not a patient person. *growl* I'll have to read through the Twilight Saga before the movie comes out. From what I see in the trailer I'll definitely throw down my moola for a two to three hour vamp fest.
